FEPM (AFLAS) O-rings are manufactured from AFLAS fluoroelastomer, also known as FEPM (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene), a high-performance elastomer widely used in applications requiring reliable sealing and strong chemical resistance. When formed into O-rings, FEPM provides excellent resistance to water and steam, which is mainly attributed to its unique molecular structure and chemical stability.
Temperature Range
FEPM O-rings operate effectively over a wide temperature range, typically from -20°C to +200°C. This broad service temperature range allows the material to maintain stable physical and sealing properties under both low-temperature and high-temperature conditions, including continuous exposure to hot steam. As a result, FEPM O-rings are well suited for high-temperature sealing applications.
Steam and Hot Water Resistance
FEPM fluoroelastomer exhibits outstanding resistance to water steam and superheated steam. It is capable of maintaining stable sealing performance under high-temperature and high-pressure steam conditions. The material does not readily degrade at elevated temperatures and retains its elasticity even after prolonged exposure to steam, ensuring long-term sealing reliability in demanding environments.
Physical and Chemical Properties
In addition to steam resistance, FEPM fluoroelastomer offers the following key properties:
Alkali and amine resistance: The molecular structure of FEPM provides excellent resistance to alkaline media and amine-based substances, making it suitable for use in chemically aggressive environments.
Electrical insulation: FEPM demonstrates good electrical insulating properties, allowing it to be used in applications where electrical isolation is required.
Chemical resistance: FEPM performs reliably in harsh media such as sour crude oil and natural gas containing hydrogen sulfide, amine-based corrosion inhibitors, high-pH drilling fluids, cracking acids, and water–oil mixed media.
